6.1 Actions to Address Risks and Opportunities
Planning starts with a clear-eyed view of what could go wrong and what could go better. The organisation runs structured processes to identify environmental aspects and impacts, capture compliance obligations, weigh risks and opportunities, and decide what to do about each — before objectives or controls are set. These planning processes (covered in 6.1.1 to 6.1.4) feed everything downstream.
6.2 Environmental Objectives and Planning to Achieve Them
Environmental objectives are the measurable commitments that turn the policy into action. They sit at the levels where they can actually be delivered — site, function, project — and they're anchored to the significant aspects, compliance obligations, and risks and opportunities the organisation has already identified. Generic targets ("reduce waste") fail; targeted ones ("cut process water draw at the Site B boiler by 18% by FY end") drive change.
